Abstract

This study explores Hindu students’ experiences of ritual participation saturation and declining reflective engagement within repetitive religious learning contexts. The study aims to examine how repeated religious practices influence students’ interpretation, personal meaning, and cognitive involvement in Hindu religious education. Employing an interpretive phenomenological approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis involving 12 Grade XI Hindu students in a Hindu-based senior high school in Denpasar, Bali. The findings reveal a paradoxical condition in which students maintain active participation in religious rituals while experiencing reduced reflective involvement toward their philosophical meanings. This study highlights the need to transform repetitive religious practices into reflective learning experiences that foster deeper spiritual awareness and meaningful engagement.
