Abstract

The integration of local cultural values in sustainable architectural practices is a strategic issue in the development of contextual and identity-based built environments. This research aims to examine and formulate an architectural design approach based on the principles of ECO-Culture which is rooted in the cultural values of the Jaton (Java-Tondano) community. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive approach with the methods of literature study, field observation, and interpretive analysis of traditional architectural elements, settlement spatial planning, and cultural practices of the Jaton community. This research makes a theoretical contribution to the development of a culture-based and sustainability architectural paradigm, as well as practical implications for designers and stakeholders in formulating architectural designs oriented towards cultural preservation and environmental sustainability.
